Fund Structure & Processes

Our society is run by students, for students. We welcome international diversity within our team to enhance the exchange of different ideas and experiences. Building an open and inclusive environment where students can discuss investment ideas without anyone being left out allows to maintain the level of quality that has been presented by past and current members. Students join the team with various degrees of investment experience, so training is an extremely important aspect of the experience. Novices to the world of finance will receive guidance by senior analysts in every step of the investment process, from stock selection and corporate research to sharing their investment ideas and incorporating feedback from the overseeing fund managers.

Team Structure

Becoming an analyst will generally be the first role that students are involved when joining the SBM fund. You will support our team in finding investible stocks and conducting thorough due diligence using industry and company analysis, while receiving training in the process by senior analysts. Each new team member can select one or two industry sectors to specialize in, with the goal of developing deeper expertise and potentially leading a group of sector analysts. Senior analysts can qualify to become a committee member who is making investment decisions.

Leadership Team

The committee is composed of committed individuals passionate about finance, encompassing both bachelor’s and master’s students, who have been given the great privilege of leading the analyst team during the winter term 2024/25. Its members are traditionally associated with making investment decisions and strategic changes, guiding teams, and incorporating their senior-level investment experience into portfolio policy formulation.

Alex plays an active role in teaching and implementing financial theory. At present, he completes his Master’s thesis on stock valuation models and has passed the CFA level 2 exam.

Filip developed his passion for investing by collaborating with the club’s partners from the finance industry. He is improving the investment guidelines for managing the SBM fund.

As a fund advisor and active retail trader, Vincent is instrumental in our investment and divestment decisions, leveraging years of experience in the stock market.

Investment Process

New analysts learn to identify suitable investments and go through a rigorous research process to critically analyze an investment opportunity. Before presenting your first investment proposal to the team, you will receive guidance on how to conduct deep industry and security analysis to determine market trends and companies’ future risk and return potential from changes in corporate strategies or financials. By learning how to present your trade idea to an audience, you can leverage your own research and give recommendations on whether to invest in new or divest existing stock holdings of the SBM fund.

Invest or Watchlist

Stocks the investment committee has voted against move on a watchlist for future re-evaluation. Analysts are still free to add any of the stocks pitched to their own portfolios.

Committee Vote

A committee of senior portfolio managers questions the analyst about the investment recommendation and must agree by majority vote for investing in the stock proposed.

Stock Pitch

Each member of a sector team is responsible for producing at least one stock pitch over the course of a semester. Analysts are expected to circulate their pitch deck in advance of meetings for review by their fellow fund members and for generating more thoughtful dialogue and decision-making.

fundamental research

To narrow our search and identify potential target investments, each sector team utilizes a bottom-up fundamental research approach based on company’s financials and incorporates the analysis of sectors trends.
